The Season of Lent 2023

The ministry of Hillwood Presbyterian Church is cyclical. Like the seasons of spring, summer, fall, and winter; we follow a church season (called the liturgical calendar). Twice in this spiraling church year, we move into special seasons that draw us deeper into our spiritual connection with God, each other, and the world.

Wednesday, 22 February 2023 marks the start of the special season called Lent. This is a time that invites self-examination, prayer, fasting (in a variety of forms), and deeper devotion of the Way of Christ – the Way in which Jesus’ life leads us. Which will include clashing with the powers in ourselves and in the world that would seek to annihilate LOVE. We must move more deeply into God, into LOVE, to face such trials. The seven weeks of Lent offer a time in community and in our personal lives to do this. To that end, we make these Lenten resources available to you.

A daily calendar that calls us to TREAD LIGHTLY – praying, reading, watching, acting throughout the season from day one of Lent (Ash Wednesday) through to the triumph of LOVE on Easter.
A weekly reflective reading that puts before us the faithful voices of our indigenous brothers and sisters in WITH CREATION.

May these resources for individual use guide you throughout this holy season of Lent. As any powers in ourselves and in the world seek to snuff out the Light of LOVE; may we be returned to the LOVE we experience through the life, death, and risen life of Jesus, the Christ.

Consider gathering in community for worship, faith exploration, service, or fellowship in any HPC ministry – especially our Lent 2023 offerings of The Rebirthing of God and Exploring Faith. Practices for reflection through for service in the local community, through dream circle work, and for creative connection remain offered each month. Learn more on the pages of our site – and via social media!

Deep Peace for the Lenten journey,

Pastor Jule
