Music
Music is an integral part of the worship life of Hillwood Presbyterian Church. Minister of Music Henry Henson offers the gift of music in worship, as do occasional guest musicians who offer acoustical worship experiences, operatic solo voices, and soulful singer-songwriter presentations. HPC utilizes the ministry of music as a powerful way of bringing the community together and being of service to others. Henry provides vocal and piano leadership for a monthly Worship & Music mission for the residents of Community Partners at the Crossings of Brookdale Belle Meade Senior Living.
HPC finds great meaning in hosting guest musicians for recitals and concerts, and in 2022-2023, hosted local Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music students for amazing experiences of music and fellowship. HPC brings the ministry of music to the wider Hillwood-West Meade community through seasonal caroling and hymn sing-alongs in the homes of those unable to be present for worship.

Preston Rogers, baritone, and Jack Allen, piano, gave a recital featuring songs on the theme of home and travel. Their recital, titled “There’s No Place Like Home,” combines art songs by Richard Rodgers, Charles Ives, Florence Price, and Peter Warlock with Ralph Vaughan Williams’ complete Songs of Travel.
